Rose Ranger, who originally hails from Vancouver, Canada, could be found in an encyclopedia under “multi-talented”. Her music spans multiple genres, and has powered through a long time of evolving sounds and demands.
Rose’s new single “Dear Dad” is an homage to her late father. She recorded her new single in Nashville, teaming up with multi Juno Award winning pedal steel and guitar player, Steve Dawson who also co-produced. Dave Jaques (who toured with John Prine for twenty-five years) plays upright bass and Justin Amaral (David Olney) plays drums on her new music. This time around, Ranger has gone back to her Americana and Folk sounds of her “Hero” days. “Dear Dad” is the first single to be released that showcases a new era in the artist’s music evolution.
In 2002, Ranger’s first full length record, Replies, came after having songs on iconic TV shows like Party of Five and Dawson’s Creek. On Replies, Ranger gives an edgier sound, and draws on influences from rock, pop and jazz, to name a few. For a first album, Ranger blew it out of the water in the early aughts, and everything that has followed has ridden those waves.
Growing up in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Ranger initially studied dance and theatre. She was eighteen when she picked up the guitar and began writing her own songs. She soon found herself on a new career path in music. After spending a year in a recording studio honing her songs, the artist released her debut album and struck a distribution deal with Pacific/Warner Music. Garnering a national buzz in the media and on radio for her version of the Eurogliders' hit song “Heaven Must Be There” she caught the attention of the original songwriter, Bernie Lynch and a few years later Ranger’s own version of “Heaven” was featured on Discovery Coast Tourism Australia television and radio ad campaigns.
Her albums Bloom (2006), Winter Town (2009), and Fall into You (2011), each had their own unique personalities, which gave Ranger the chance to showcase her diverse sound and skill set. After her debut album, Ranger took her second album, Bloom, in a different direction. More country and folk influences were heard with the 2006 release, again displaying just how much she can do. Winter Town – a Christmas album with both original songs and beloved classics – followed in 2009. Finally, acoustic pop took centre stage on the 2011 album, Fall into You.
After releasing her 2016 single, “Beautiful Baby”, Ranger was back again to be sure no one forgets just how versatile and magnetic her sound is. Her lead single, “Confession” revealed a pure and simple ode to a deeply loved individual, ripe with warm, fluid pop grooves one would expect. Ranger describes “Confession” as a “love letter to someone from the past.” Sounds about right.
With soulful and vulnerable lyrics conveying experiences most can relate to, coupled with appealing inspired pop sounds, Confessions showcased a powerful album created by a true artist who is never afraid to evolve and change lanes.
Performing solo or with her band, Ranger has performed in Canada, USA, Germany, Australia, Africa and the Caribbean. She has opened for Keith Urban, 54-40, and has shared stages with Mae Moore, Mathew Barber, Lynn Miles, Steven Fearing, Garrison Starr, Chin Injeti (Eminem), Tim Bovaconti (Ron Sexsmith), Peter Fusco (Sarah Slean), Ian Brown (Matthew Good).
In the recording studio, she has collaborated with hit music makers, producers, and songwriters including, Ryan Stewart (Carley Rae Jepsen) Confessions, Manhattan Clique (Katy Perry) “Confession Remix”, Nick Bearden (Jamestown Revival) “Beautiful Baby”, Ryan Stewart and Davey Badiuk (Tegan and Sara) Roses; Dave Corman (Film Composer) and Ryan Stewart Fall Into You, Steven Drake (The Tragically Hip) and John Ellis (Bruce Cockburn) Bloom, Craig Zurba (Bryan Adams) Winter Town and Replies, Kyprios (Sweatshop Union) “Beautifully Broken”, Dave Reimer (Barney Bentall) “Back of the Bus”, including songwriting projects with Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter), Dan Kearley (BT), Mark Makoway (Serena Ryder).
Ranger’s songs can be heard in television shows and movies such as Destined at Christmas (Great American Family), The Story of Us (Hallmark), The Bandit Hound (Alchemy Films), The Young and The Restless (CBS), Christmas Angel (Lifetime), Beautiful People (ABC), Joan Of Arcadia (CBS), Love on The Side (Screen Media Films), Strong Medicine (Lifetime), Dawson's Creek (WB), Party of Five (Fox), Ultimate: Spirit of the Game (CBC), Undressed (MTV), and television commercials for Tourism Australia and Whistler Film Festival.
As an actress, Ranger has played roles in episodes of Supernatural (Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki) and Sacred Lies (Toby Huss, Elena Kampouris). She has sang in advertisements for Women's Expo, Capital Direct, Children's Charity Lottery and has been a guest music performer for Disney Cruises.
Ranger has also been an adjudicator for The Juno Awards, The Independent Music Awards, Music BC and The Leo Awards. She is a member of The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), The American Federation of Musicians (AFM), The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), The Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP).
Garnering noteworthy accolades and international reviews in music magazines and media publications, Canadian Beats Media named Ranger as a “Top Five BC Artist to watch”. Ranger's single “Power” was added to the 'Best New Songs From Canadian Artists' Spotify Playlist by Exclaim Magazine and the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) chose “Power” as a finalist in the Adult Contemporary Song Category. She has also been a song finalist in the ISC for her single "I'm With You" on her album Fall Into You and she was nominated by the Independent Music Awards for her single “Beautifully Broken" on her EP Roses. Her songs can be heard on Commercial Radio, SiriusXM, Stingray Music, CBC, and on many other radio platforms.
